Npam Chen Shouyin  陈寿荫 Shanghai native.  Went to the US to study when young, but left school in 1921 to join a New York theatrical company as an actor.  Also appeared in a movie for a New Jersey movie studio, portraying a Japanese.  Went to Hollywood in 1922 as a writer for Goldwyn Pictures.  Later moved to Universal as an assistant director, while at the same time acting for other studios.  After returning to China in 1924, he joined the Ramos Film Company, directing and acting the lead in 1924's "Nie Haichao" 孽海潮 (Tide of Evil).  Chen then joined the Da Zhonghua film studio as an editor, but also co-directed "Renxin"人心 (Public Opinion or Human Feelings) and taught in the studio's film school.  Later in the decade he directed for the Xinhua and Xinren movie studios.
